Alexandros K. Pantazis was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1980. He studied physics from 1998 to 2002 and received his M.Sc. in Microelectronics-Optoelectronics in 2004, both from the University of Crete (UoC), Greece. He worked for a year as a research assistant in the Microelectronics Research Group (MRG) of IESL/FORTH. In 2005, he joined the Biology Department of UoC, where he completed in 2007 and 2011 respectively a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Protein Biotechnology. He is since 2011 a post-doctoral fellow at BioMEMS Laboratory at the Mechanical Engineering department of the University of Michigan, working towards the development of optofluidic chips for medical applications. His research interests include from design to fabrication and application of biosensors, micro- and opto-fluidic devices, and lab-on-a-chip systems.
